2nd Antarctic Biennale
Antarctica, 01/03/19 - 30/04/19
Quo Artis Foundation is the producer of the 2nd Antarctic Art Biennale, an intercultural and supranational project, which brings together artists and scientists from all over the world to explore the future of Antarctica.
The idea of the Biennale emerged in 2011 by the hand of Russian artist and sailor Alexander Ponomarev. From his conception, the project seeks to stimulate collaboration between professionals in the field of science, art and philosophy to build new concepts and to think of other forms of collaboration between people. Indeed, Antarctica is a source of inspiration, not only because is a little-explored area, but also because it is the only supranational continent.
The aim of the Biennial, for its second edition, is to continue with the task of creating a stable cultural structure, through people capable to think and reflect jointly in extreme conditions. The Antarctic artistic expedition will take place between March and April 2019 on a research vessel, as it was for the 1st edition. It will leave the port of Ushuaia, Argentina and count with the participation of leading international artists and scientists.
During the expedition days, the ship will turn into a floating creative laboratory and studio where debates, conferences, performances and workshops will be developed. The artistic projects, produced specifically for the Biennial, will be installed temporarily, during each landing, in different Antarctic locations. The pieces will be portable and will respect the environment.
