Fernando Martín Velazco
Fernando Martín Velazco is a writer and the captain of Stultifera Navis Institutom, a platform for creative expeditions. He coordinated the multidisciplinary research cycle of gray whales “Los Juegos del Leviatán” (2017-2021), which was awarded with the second prize of the Quo Artis Award 2020 for production in art, science and technology for the project The Maihaiowit 's Lullaby.
"My artwork, as well as the projects that I coordinate in the Stultifera Navis Institutom platform, are based on a methodology of creative expeditions that I developed. This situates my work in peripheries –places whose I define by the preponderant absence of humans. Multidiscipline came naturally. In contrast with labs, expeditions are developed in noncontrolled environments, so emergent matters are what predominate. My background as a science journalist helped me to explore the poetics of different territories without losing sight of the scientific state of the art about the natural subjects on them. Multiple are the features that characterize creative expeditions. I would like to highlight here their capacity to entangle art and science with the ecocritical narratives, where I place my own work".
