María Castellanos y Alberto Valverde (uh513)

María Castellanos and Alberto Valverde (uh513) began working as an artistic duo in 2009. María Castellanos is an artist with a Ph.D. in Fine Arts and Alberto Valverde is an artist and technologist, with extensive experience in system design, creation of interactive environments, multimedia and robotics. Their joint artistic practice deals with the relationships between humans and machines, focusing their recent research on hybridizations between cyborgs and wearables, as a paradigm of the amplification of human sensory capacities. As well as in the creation of complex interspecies communication systems that promote understanding between humans and plants.

Their work has won different awards such as the VERTIGO STARTS award (2017), a European initiative of EU-Horizon 2020, led by the Center Pompidou and IRCAM in Paris and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in Germany. In 2016 they obtained the Antón Scholarship for Sculptural Research from the Antón de Candás Museum (ES).

They have participated in different exhibitions, such as: Jardín Cyborg, Matatero, Madrid, 2019; the solo exhibition Open Environmental Kit at MUSAC – Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y Leon, 2019, Eco-Visionaries at Hek, Basel, 2018 and LABoral centro de Arte, Gijón, 2019; Human Factor, organized by Ars Electronica at DRIVE Volskwagen, Berlin, 2016; Festival Ars Electronica 2016, Linz and Bozar Electronic Art Festival, Brussels, 2016.
