Marco Mezquida
Marco Mezquida shines equally as composer, pianist, improviser, accompanist and bandleader; that he is eclectic and versatile, is to name the obvious. Above all, Marco is a playful and unpredictable artist, who creates a world of his own that is at once inviting and fascinating. He has recorded twenty albums with his own artistic projects and forty more with leading artists, and his dizzying concert activity has led him to perform in important auditoriums and halls in thirty-five countries.
Mezquida plays in a large variety of constellations including solo piano, accompanied by orchestras, duos and trios. His music crosses genres, including jazz as well as his original approaches to Ravel, Handel or Chopin, flamenco, or popular Latin American music. One of his most successful projects in the last few years has been Chicuelo y Mezquida, a trio that blends jazz and flamenco together. One of his outstanding collaborations is PIANO + AI, a duet with an artificial intelligence system, which Quo Artis will be programmed for the first 2023 edition of NEO, at the CosmoCaixa Science Museum. In this human-machine concert, the pianist and the AI listen to each other and react to each other's stimuli. This is a co-creation project of Sónar+D, UPC University and ESMUC. The system was programmed by UPC and CITM researchers Philippe Salembier, Josep Maria Comajuncosa and Ivan Paz.
